William G. Brownlow was a minister, newspaper publisher, and governor, who attacked the Confederacy after Tennessee seceded from the Union. He was forced to cease publishing and was imprisoned, but he was enventually freed and was escorted to Union lines in March 1862. Biographical note: George Douglas, who took these photographs, was chief engineer at Nacozari from 1900 to 1904, and inspector for Phelps Dodge from 1904 to 1905. On February 19th and 20th, 1910 aviator Charles K. Hamilton brought his bi-plane to Tucson for an aviation exhibition. The demonstration was conducted at the Elysian Grove racetrack.
